Emomotimi Agama began his academic journey at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy in 1991.
He furthered his education with two master’s degrees from the University of Benin, one in Banking and Finance (1997) and another in Economics (2000).
His pursuit of knowledge led him to obtain a doctorate degree in Economics from the Nile University of Nigeria in 2022.

Agama’s professional career started at the University of Benin, where he served as an accountant and a part-time lecturer between 1993 and 2002.
He then worked as the Personal Assistant to the Director General of the National Center for Women Development from 2002 to 2003, followed by a role as a Principal Accountant at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation from 2003 to 2004.
Agama joined the SEC in February 2004 as a Senior Financial Analyst and the Special Assistant to the Executive Commissioner (Operations), a position he held until 2012. He then became the Deputy Head of Exchanges until 2018.
In 2018, he was promoted to the Head of Registration, Exchanges, and Market Infrastructure, and later became the Head of the Nigerian Capital Market Institute (NCMI).
On April 19, 2024, Agama was announced as the new Director General of the SEC, taking over from Lamido Yuguda.
