Her mother, Caye Ann (Cavender) Hicks, also worked in government administration.

Hicks’s early education took place at the Greenwich High School, where she was a co-captain of the lacrosse team. Following high school, she pursued higher education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. There, she majored in English and played on the club lacrosse team, further honing her skills in both academics and athletics.

During her time at university, Hicks stepped into the world of modeling, appearing in campaigns for Ralph Lauren and featuring on the cover of a Gossip Girl series spin-off novel. However, her focus remained on her studies, and she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English.

Hope Hicks’ journey began after graduating from the University. She entered the professional world as a public relations officer at the New York City firm Zeno Group. In 2012, Hicks was hired by Hiltzik Strategies, a pivotal move that would eventually lead her to the Trump Organization.

At Hiltzik Strategies, Hicks worked on various high-profile accounts, including the Trump Organization, where she managed communications for Ivanka Trump’s fashion line. Her competence and dedication caught the attention of the Trump family, and she was brought on board to work directly for the Trump Organization. This role was the stepping stone to her involvement in Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

As the Trump campaign took shape, Hicks was appointed as the press secretary. Despite having no prior political experience, her natural aptitude for managing the fast-paced demands of the campaign’s communications made her an invaluable asset. She was known for her ability to handle a high volume of press inquiries and maintain a close working relationship with Donald Trump, often taking dictation from him to craft tweets and statements.

Hicks’ role expanded as she became the White House Director of Strategic Communications in January 2017. Her responsibilities included overseeing the messaging strategies of the Trump administration. In August 2017, following a brief stint as the interim, she was officially appointed as the White House Communications Director, a position she held until March 2018.

After her first departure from the White House, Hicks transitioned to the private sector as the chief communications officer and executive vice president at Fox Corporation. Her time at Fox was short-lived, as she was called back to the White House in March 2020 to serve as Counselor to the President. In this role, she continued to be a key advisor and strategist until her final departure on January 13, 2021.
