Kwabena Kwakye Biography

Kwabena Kwakye, affectionately known as Wofa KK, was a veteran Ghanaian broadcaster and the Director of Radio at Oman FM. Sadly, he passed away suddenly on February 14, 2024, which coincided with Valentine’s Day.

Kwabena Kwakye’s untimely death left many social media users and the station’s listeners devastated. Reports indicate that he collapsed while at work and was later pronounced dead at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

Wofa KK was a well-known figure in the media industry, and his passing was met with sadness and shock. He had been hosting the popular political program “Boiling Point” on Oman FM.

Kwabena Kwakye Early Life and Education

Kwabena Kwakye Anti was born on October 18, 1970 in Akim Awisa, near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region. His early formative years were spent at Awisa Presbyterian School and Saltpond English Church Mission School, where he completed his education. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue secondary education at Mfantsipim School from and later at Achimota School.

Kwabena Kwakye enrolled at the University of Leeds, where he graduated in with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, with a focus on Local Government. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, he joined the University of Colorado, where he earned a master’s degree in business administration.

Kwabena Kwakye Career

Kwabena Kwakye was a remarkable Ghanaian broadcaster whose career spanned several decades. He began his professional journey at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). His insightful reporting and engaging style quickly propelled him to the role of chief of the news department.

Joining Multimedia Group Limited, Kwakye became a household name as the host of Joy FM’s premier morning show, “The Super Morning Show”. His eloquence and engaging manner won him legions of fans. His fearless commentary and commitment to free speech made him a respected figure in Ghanaian media.

In 2010, Kwakye embraced a new challenge at KenCity Media Limited. Here, he managed operations at Oman FM and hosted the political talk show “Boiling Point”. His allegiance to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) added a layer of controversy to his impactful career. Despite facing threats and lawsuits, he remained undeterred.

Kwabena Kwakye was married to Abigail Kwakye, a nurse and businesswoman. Their union spanned over two decades, and he often spoke about his wife with pride on his radio show. The couple had three children: two sons and a daughter.

Kwabena Kwakye’s Death

Kwabena Kwakye passed away on February 14, 2024. He suffered a heart attack while hosting his morning show on Oman FM. He collapsed during work, and despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

Kwabena Kwakye Funeral

The funeral ceremony of the late Oman FM journalist, Kwabena Kwakye was held on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The funeral was attended by top government officials, including President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
