Rahul Rasgotra is a distinguished officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS) of the 1989 batch. He has served in various capacities within the Intelligence Bureau (IB), including as Additional Director and Special Director.

As of June 2023, he was appointed as the Special Director of IB. Later, in December 2023, he assumed the role of Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), a position he is expected to hold until his superannuation on September 30, 2025.

Rahul Rasgotra was born in 1964 in Maharashtra and he grew up in a family deeply rooted in public service. His father was an IAS officer, and his mother worked as a doctor, instilling in him a strong sense of duty and service from a young age.

Rasgotra pursued his higher education with a focus on history and international relations. He completed his B.A. in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, followed by an M.A. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi.

Rasgotra began his career in the IPS as an officer of the 1989 batch from the Maharashtra cadre. His initial years were spent in various districts of Maharashtra, where he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and then as the Superintendent of Police (SP).

His leadership skills and dedication to duty saw him rise through the ranks quickly. He served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Mumbai, where he implemented several initiatives to modernize the police force and enhance public safety.

Rasgotra’s expertise in intelligence and counter-terrorism led to his appointment in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s premier internal security agency. Over nearly three decades, he managed important desks, dealing with critical issues of national security.
